Pregnancy
Fertility experts believe that teenage pregnancy is a difficult issue because it concerns not only the teenager’s capability to rear up a child but also because of the several health risks associated with this type of pregnancy. According to pub med health, children age 12 - 14 years old are more likely to have unplanned sexual intercourse because this is the age group more likely to be talked into having into sex. Statistics show that up to two-thirds of adolescent pregnancies occur in teens that are age 18 to 19 years old.

A shocking news brought by theledger.com, a fourteen year old girl was arrested and charged with killing of her newborn son. Maternal Hypertension And Its Effect On The Child

Maternal Hypertension
According to medscape.com, hypertension is one of the most common health problems encountered by mothers during pregnancy. Hypertension in pregnancy can be categorized into four groups - chronic hypertension, preeclampsia-eclampsia, preeclampsia superimposed on chronic hypertension and gestational hypertension. Studies show that maternal hypertension can increase the likelihood of fetal malformations because of the use of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors during the first trimester of pregnancy.

However, further studies have to be made because clinical observation has not fully confirmed these findings.
Just recently, foxnews.com released a report stating that maternal hypertension can also affect the child’s intellect later in life. Researchers linked the low birth weight in newborns with an increased risk of aging-related disorders and lower cognitive function. According to Katri Räikkönen, a researcher at the University of Helsinki, “Lower birth rate is a proxy of environmental factors during pregnancy and preeclampsia, or high blood pressure, is one of those environmental factors.” On the other hand, the researchers believe that there are certain factors that can affect the blood pressure measurements like maternal stress and other external factor. It is possible that hypertension in women can be just a temporary incident because of these other factors.

Fertility specialists and the researchers would advise pregnant mothers to look after not just their physical health but also their psychological health because their general health can affect their pregnancy and the life of their unborn child.

Vegas Mixx, Combination Of Viagra And Valium

ViagraErectile dysfunction is characterized by the inability of the male partner to develop or maintain an erection of the penis during sexual performance. This condition can lower the confidence of guys that is why Viagra was invented to solve man’s erection problems. But are you familiar with the term Vegas Mixx?  According to lasvegassun.com, this is the latest club drug being promoted in Sin City. The drug is growing in popularity because promotional materials described the drug as a combination of Valium and Viagra.

However, before taking any new medication, it is important to consult your doctor because it can put your health into jeopardy. Remember that Valium, which is a controlled substance have serious side effects like allergic reactions, drowsiness, in coordination, muscle weakness and tiredness. Viagra, on the other hand can cause erections that can last for four hours. The people behind this controversial drug claimed that Vegas Mixx is legal. True enough, the pharmacy never was disciplined by the Nevada State Board of Pharmacy. The production of the drug ceased only because it wasn't profitable. What is worrying about the drug is that the compounding pharmacy that manufactures Vegas Mixx was making and marketing the drug combo even before a doctor had prescribed it.

How To Know You Are Ovulating

Ovulation
Ovulation is an important process in the female's menstrual cycle. During ovulation a mature ovarian follicle ruptures and discharges an egg, ovum or oocyte. When the egg is fertilized by the sperm, pregnancy occurs. But if it doesn’t the woman will have her monthly menstrual cycle. Fertility experts believe that there are many ways to tell if you are ovulating or not.

First is to check the calendar. To be effective in predicting ovulation using a menstrual calendar, your cycle should be consistent. Monitoring your cycles for a few months will tell you if your periods are regular or irregular. If irregular this method will not work for you.

Second, pay attention to any twinge of pain or a series of cramps in your lower abdominal area. This is known as mittelschmerz — German for "middle pain." This is a cue that the mature ovarian follicle has ruptured and an egg has been released.

Third, monitor your body temperature. Your basal body temperature or BBT will reach its lowest point at ovulation and then rise instantly and dramatically (about a half a degree) as soon as ovulation occurs.
Fourth, observe your cervical mucus. Monitor any increase in quantity, and change in consistency of cervical mucus.

Fifth, invest in an Ovulation predictor kits (OPKs). This kit can pinpoint your date of ovulation in advance by looking at levels of luteinizing hormone.

Above are excellent ways on how to detect if you are ovulating or not. Knowing if you are ovulating or not will help you and your partner especially if you have been trying to conceive.

Impact Of Breast Cancer Treatment To Fertility

breast cancer
Based on statistics released by breastcancer.org, about 1 in 8 women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. This is a very troubling figure because it means 27 percent of the population. Many women diagnosed with breast cancer fear the different treatments that they will need to undergo and its impact on their fertility.

According to fertility experts, as with most types of cancer, treatment for breast cancer will have a negative impact on the woman’s fertility. Some of the side effects are temporary, but others are permanent. The degree of the impact will rely on the type of treatment and dosage that the woman will receive and the age of the patient.

Chemotherapy used to treat cancer is very effective in killing breast cancer tumors. This treatment not only destroys the cancer cells in the body, it can also damage the woman’s fertility because it also affects the healthy cells. Moreover, breast cancer treatment can cause premature menopause in some women. On the other hand, this does not instantly occur after completing chemotherapy.
Due to the advancement of science and technology, fertility doctors came up with an effective way to preserve a woman’s fertility. It is important that these options to be discussed with a person diagnosed with breast cancer prior to receiving treatment so that the patient will have options if ever she is considering getting pregnant in the future.

Men’s Sperm Quality Linked To Antioxidant Intake

antioxidants
Antioxidants are important compounds found in foods. It is also produced by the body to protect the organs and body systems from free radicals which can damage cellular structures. According to fertility experts, consumption of fruits and vegetables can help promote good reproductive health. Vitamin E which is found in vegetable oils helps to reduce the oxidative stress on our cells. It also has positive effect on both eggs and sperms’ health because as an antioxidant, it protects these reproductive cells from damage. Other good sources of antioxidants in foods are found in green vegetables like spinach and broccoli, while zinc sources include seafood, red meat, beans, nuts and dairy.

SpermA new study revealed that middle aged and older men who consume enough antioxidants in their diet may have better-quality sperm than men who lack the important nutrients. Those who receive the most antioxidants have fewer DNA-strand breaks in their sperm. DNA-strand breaks in their sperm measures the genetic quality of male reproductive cell.

Further studies are to be made because the study does not prove that antioxidants directly improve sperm quality or improve the chances of a healthy pregnancy. Although male factors only account to forty percent to infertility cases, it doesn’t hurt to take care of the body and improve fertility.

Upon reading this, I thought that men will now be more interested and willing to take antioxidants, share your thoughts and point of views regarding men who needs to take antioxodants.
